Anyone raising a girl needs to read "Cinderella Ate My Daughter" by Peggy Orenstein. Scary stuff about how marketers (not kids) have driven the new "Princess culture" that encourages girls to see themselves as commodities and/or as the shallow, materialistic, shopping vixens of a "Mad Men" stereotype. Miriam has managed to avoid the Princess trap thus far. Here's a day in her life -- picking berries with cousin Pearce, drawing stuff on the sidewalk, and climbing a downed tree.

It looks Miriam is having a wonderful time. I love that downed tree.
I can't wait to read the book. I loved her book "Schoolgirls" when I was in college.
Here's the piece she wrote before Mariane was born.

Luckily our princess says she wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up.
Here's to strong, self-assured, generous, and clever girls!
I just finishes the "Wholesome to Whoresome" chapter, and am convinced I want Millie and Cleo to stay little forever... -t
